In Memory of Agnes H. Stone

Agnes Stone (Angie's Grandmother) was 96 years old. We named the band after her from a couple of very random happenings. It started out with us trying to find a band name. Well, after months of trying, we were at a loss pretty much. So, one night we all got together with our friends at Bar Louie’s and had a couple drinks and dinner and started brainstorming some Band names. We thought of resurrecting our very old name "Tiki Lenny" and then another band name came up "The PickMeups". But none of these names really stuck in our guts. Finally, Staci and Angie were talking about wedding invites for Bryan and Staci's wedding that year. Staci blurted out "Angie, I've been Hunting for Agnes' address all week so I can send her an invite". We all kind of laughed and someone shouted, "Hey, Hunting Agnes...now that'd be a funny band name". Ok, so Angie wrote it down on the napkin and that's how it started. We then proceeded to the Shadow Box Cabaret after our dinner. Now, normally the MC's at the shadowbox caberet announce Birthdays and Anniversaries and other Cliché things like that. But, we got a hold of The MC (one of the main owners) and asked her if she would do a crowd poll (Applause-O-Meter) for each of these three names we just came up with. Angie handed her the Napkin with the 3 names on it. The MC was totally into it (probably because she was tired of the same ol' birthday announcements). Anyway, she went up and told the crowd what was going on. So, she yelled out the 1st name..."Tiki Lenny". Their were a few claps and hollers. Then she presented the second name "The PickMeUps". There was a little more of a response to that one, but still not what we were looking for. She finally shouted out "Hunting Agnes". The crowd literally went crazy for that name and loved it. So, we pretty much had our name figured out for us and it's stuck ever since.

After that, the stories behind the name started to evolve. This was based on Stories in which Agnes would tell to us whenever we'd go over to her house on "Hunt" road HA! They were stories of her getting chased by bears, deer, Pit Bulls and even Gypsies on the Old "Mill Creek". She had stories of John Dillinger robbing a bank in Reading Ohio in the 20's right in front of her very eyes. Some of these stories we have sound bytes for. They're all entertaining, and all have a little adventuristic undertone to them that implied Agnes being chased or "hunted". hehe! Agnes lived an amazing and good long life. She died unexpectedly at her home in Reading Ohio on "Hunt" Road on Friday - October 24th, 2008 (yes, she still lived all by herself even at 96 years old!!). This was the very night we played our first and last gig at The Blue Note (because it closed doors soon after). The band got word of her passing within a half hour of our show. Needless to say, it was a sad time for all of us, but we played a great show in her honor!
